EU Parliament Spyware Committee Member Targeted with Spyware

A new Citizen Lab Investigation revealed that a former Member of the European Parliament, Stelios Kouloglou, was repeatedly hacked with NSO Group’s Pegasus spyware while investigating the abuse of spyware during key periods of the PEGA committee. The spyware would have likely captured non-public information about committee activities, possibly breaching parliamentary confidentiality frameworks.

These findings clearly demonstrate how mercenary spyware continues to be illegally deployed in the EU effectively undermining democratic processes and checks and balances. This is why, SAI grantees are pushing for the European Parliament, the European Commission and EU member states to stop the harmful impacts of the spyware industry by putting adequate safeguards in place and by implementing the Pega committee’s recommendation.
